Here's the full story on why I returned my Tesla Model 3.

One of the reasons I first ordered the Tesla Model 3 was because of their 7 day return policy. Tesla states on their website that you can purchase a car and return it within 7 days as long as it meets some basic requirements. I was on the fence for a while about getting the car but ultimately decided to buy knowing that if I really didn't like it then I could always return it for a full refund. I had no real intention of returning the car but ended up doing so for a couple of main reasons:

1. My knee pain
I've had two surgeries on my left knee after tearing my ACL, MCL and meniscus. Once when I was 11 and again when I was 20, both from playing soccer. After the two 9 month recovery processes, my knee is very sensitive and the sitting in the driver's seat hurt my knee so badly that I couldn't actually drive the car. Many people prefer the low style of the driver's seat including myself, but for some reason the seat in the Tesla Model 3 hurt my knee very badly. I tried adjusting the seats to all the different settings, and I even went to my doctor after I noticed the pain because I've never experienced such great pain while driving a car.

2. Backup noise
To my understanding, all Tesla Model 3s, and perhaps other models as well, have a backup noise when in reverse mode in order to warn pedestrians. It's very loud and annoying to the point where you have to turn off the music because it clashes with whatever song you're listening to. It literally was giving me a headache and I would even hear the sound in my head when not even driving the car. It cannot be turned off. I may have been able to get used to the sound but it's definitely something to consider when purchasing the car, and something that I had no idea even came with the car.

3. Defects
There were some defects on the car at the time of my purchase. These are things that could have been fixed but with a brand new car of such high level of technology I was quite dissappointed that it came with defects. The right passenger mirror would not always open after unlocking the car. Both side mirrors are supposed to open when unlocking the car and often times after driving on the road I would look over and the right side mirror was stuck in shut. I had to pull over multiple times, get out of my car, lock it, and unlock it to get it to open. I also noticed a clicking sound when reversing and a glitch when using the backup camera at night. Again these are things that could probably be fixed pretty easily at a service center but it did not leave a great first impression.

4. Some poorly designed features of the car
While I do think the Tesla Model 3 is a beautifully designed car, the side panels connecting the windshield and the window are very large and also very limiting when trying to look out which created a large blind spot to the point where you have to get up out of your seat to look around it to make sure there are no cars there. This may have been something I could get used to but it was quite annoying to drive with this issue.

5. Financial reasons
One of the main reasons I was on the fence about purchasing a Tesla was because of my current financial situation. As a recent college graduate, I am nowhere near financial freedom. I paid off my car driving for Lyft and Uber while working my main job and planned to use that equity from a private sale to cover a significant portion of the Tesla. Due to Tesla's reputation of being an amazing car, I convinced myself to get one despite my current financial situation. It wasn't a financially sound move, but I justified it. After driving the car and being extremely careful with it, I realized that it was probably a bad financial decision and decided to return it.

If you are on the fence about getting a car, it is great to rest assured knowing that you can return it within 7 days. I have nothing against Tesla as a company, and hope to get one that fits my needs in the near future.
